Next up -- Kilmarnock

With 14 fixtures remaining in the campaign it is too soon to suggest that this meeting will determine which side will occupy the play-off place in May but there’s no doubt that a home win would bring some relief to Motherwell.

McGhee’s men have not won a league game since December and in five attempts they have only two draws to show for their efforts.  To cap a rotten start to the year there was a cup exit last week thanks to a last minute goal.

Moult scores from the spot to win the game in August

The manager has stuck to his guns and defended recent team selections.  There has been much grumbling from the terracing about the solo striking job that McDonald has been handed when the partnership with Moult has delivered most of our goals.  Maybe it will be back to a more familiar line up this time.

Kilmarnock have a few issues to deal with notwithstanding Saturday’s game.  Big Lee, as he was known in his Motherwell days, is in temporary charge while the Rugby Park board seek a replacement for Gary Locke.  There is also a cup replay against Rangers next Tuesday.

Our opponents will be hoping to avoid a third consecutive league loss and they know that a win would see them leapfrog us in the table.

Motherwell have had the better this season’s meetings, winning both 1-0.  It’s about time that we had a happy Saturday night and with a clean sheet and a couple of goals we can enjoy a 2-0 win.
