Next up - St Johnstone

St Johnstone and Motherwell meet for only the second time this season when a rearranged league fixture takes place at Fir Park on Tuesday.   The teams lie seventh and eighth in the table; this is a six-pointer.

We last met the Perth Saints in August in a crazy game at McDiarmid Park.  The home side won 4-1 but the headlines focussed on the three red cards that Craig Thomson awarded to Carson, McHugh and Dunne in the second half.  We do not expect Don Robertson to be so busy this time.

Another night under the Fir Park lights

St Johnstone failed to take their chances at Tynecastle on Saturday and lost to the only goal of the game.  Tommy Wright fumed at the "ridiculous" decision by the referee that led to the dismissal of David Wotherspoon.   That will force at least one change to the visitors' line-up.

Recent results (DDLLL) have done nothing to help their league position and fans' chat notes that they are only three points above the play-off place.

Stephen Robinson conceded that we did not deserve three points against Partick Thistle on Saturday but was delighted to see Nadir Ciftci score the goal that earned a point.  He can be pleased the striking pair that arrived in the winter window has started so well.  They have scored in each of the four league games so far and halted the barren spell that had us in free fall.

Their contrasting styles pose different threats to opposition defences and with Cadden now up to full speed and Frear returning from a long lay-off we have the capability to score.

A close contest is in prospect and a share of the spoils would not be a surprise.  Odds of 12/5 on the draw may pay out after a 1-1.
