Next up - St Mirren

Since the turn of the year the Buddies have delivered the poorest record of any team in the top flight.  The sorry tale is Played 15 Won 2 Drawn 2 and Lost 11.  It’s no surprise that they are in eleventh spot and face a risk to their survival in the league.  Motherwell had a warning last week of the reaction that a relegation threat can produce when Kilmarnock came from behind at Fir Park.  On the same day St Mirren were in Inverness and fought back to take a point with a second half goal.  The warning to McCall and his men is clear.

Although our opponents have yet to score against us this season they have in Thomson a striker who has a knack of finding the net – his double at Greenhill Road last season led to a 2-1 defeat.  Goodwin is back in back in the team and we’ll have to hope that referee Euan Norris keeps a firm hand on the game.  Goalkeeper Kello has a groin injury and we’ll likely see 20 year old Dilo get his third consecutive start.

Stuart McCall’s delight at the win in Inverness was tempered by the list of injured players.  It seems that Reid’s gashed toe might be repaired sufficiently for him to retain a place but questions remain over Anier.  McFadden and Carswell will miss out.  Although the squad has been stretched the players have worked hard and earned the points that now see us sharing second place.  Moore is making the best of his chance of a string of first team appearances and his contribution to Tuesday’s winning goal should add to his growing confidence.

The midweek win will give heart to tiring legs and with the backing of a big travelling support and the prospect of a free weekend to come we should anticipate another three points.  Many will have us on the fixed odds away list and they’ll be happy to see a 2-0 Win for the Mighty ‘Well.
