Next up..Inverness

A repeat of the 5-1 drubbing we dished out last November would delight the travelling fans but the home supporters will point out that the team that scored 15 against them last term has apparently lost a lot of firepower.  Of our current squad only McFadden and Cummins scored against ICT last year and our four competitive games so far (two in Europe) have seen us hit the net twice.

Motherwell fans in Inverness

Inverness will also take heart from their unbeaten start in the SPFL.  A 3-0 win against St Mirren was followed by a 1-0 win at Tannadice.  McKay has been on the scoresheet t twice and he'll be high on the watch list in McCall's team talk.  Andrew Shinnie and Antonio Reguero left in the close season but a host of replacements from the lower reaches of English football has arrived to add bulk to their squad.  Our old favourite Richie Foran, now 33,  will lead his troops in his usual flamboyant style.

Most of the Motherwell squad have had some chance to recover from the gruelling schedule they had to endure last week although Hammell was with the Scotland squad at Wembley and Anier played 45 minutes for Estonia in their friendly against Latvia.   While an understandable weariness crept into the closing stages of the Aberdeen game there will be no excusing a lack of energy at the Caledonian Stadium.

As for a starting eleven, the struggle for the goalkeeping jersey continues and there's no certainty who'll be preferred.  Francis-Angol began the last game but Lawson will probably regain his place this time and for the rest it is likely to be 'as you were'.

Will Inverness remain a happy hunting ground?  Any point away from home is welcome and we'll not complain after an exciting 2-2 draw.
