One week to go

The pain of the horrible happening in Iceland will best be relieved when the players and fans can celebrate a win.  Unfortunately more than a fortnight will have passed before we'll have that chance when St Mirren visit Fir Park for the SPFL opener.

Little has been heard from the corridors in the Phil O'Donnell stand.  No thoughts from the manager nor news of player targets until Kenny Black broke the silence in the Motherwell Times to deny knowledge of Notts County striker Anthony Dyer's tweet that suggested he was on his way to Motherwell.  Of the Europa League defeat he said, " Stjarnan were a decent side, but certainly not of the quality of a Kuban Krasnodar or Levante.  To be two up at home, and then ahead twice over there and not to see it out was particularly disappointing, but now we need to pull ourselves together for the big kick-off on August 9.”

On Thursday news broke that Real Betis would provide opposition for a "bounce game" at the weekend.  This match would have drawn a few thousand fans but we are told "the commitments of the local Police force, stewarding companies and other contractors "  would result in the game taking place behind closed doors.  Haven't we played many fixtures at home without a police presence?

The countdown to the season start is well underway and it can't come soon enough. Time for another look at the DVD of last season!
