Paul McGrillen 1971-2009

With the team due to take part in an important Europa League tie this evening a shadow has been cast over the day. A few beers will be lifted in his memory in Bucharest.

He played close to a hundred times for Motherwell and was at Fir Park during that wonderful period between 1990 and 1995 when the team achieved so much. Yet another one gone.

Paul was found at his Hamilton home on Wednesday night and a police spokesman reported that there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

Links with Motherwell continued well beyond his transfer to Falkirk. He played for us in the Masters Tournaments and most recently appeared in Phil O'Donnell's tribute match and Dougie Arnott's testimonial game.

Our thoughts are with Paul's family at this time.
