Preview: Rangers (a)

Let's hope so!
The Falkirk game was very much a bad day at the office and everyone connected with the club can write it off. It was particularly disappointing not just because of the chance we had that weekend but because of the forthcoming games. Both of the Old Firm, Dundee United and Hibs are up in the next four matches and with this difficult run ahead, losing at home to Falkirk becomes even more of a blow.

But it is done now and there is no point in dwelling on it. That we are sitting third, clear by four whole points, at Christmas is incredible and now we must look to pick up the results we need to keep our challenge going, even if that challenge is more realistically for the top six than third. We are perfectly capable of taking something from Rangers as teams worse than us have already done this term. However, the Ibrox club have a hoodoo over us. We have not beaten them since Boxing Day 2002 and in Glasgow that record is even worse.

We will play our usual team unless McGhee decides the threat of Hutton charging down the right wing requires the presence of Fitzpatrick. In the CIS game at Fir Park we kept Hutton invisible with this plan but at the cost of sacrificing our entire attack. McGhee seems a bold manager and it is unlikely he will be so conservative again.

Rangers are without a handful of players although Darcheville might be available after being in France following a death in his family. Lee McCulloch will be denied the chance to play against his old team mates due to suspension but there is enough quality in Rangers side to hurt us regardless.

We will need to be at our best and carry a little luck to escape with a 1-1 draw.

Do you remember this happy Boxing Day?
