Queen's Park Preview

The game does not even have the attraction of being at Hampden Park. Instead, as if to confirm its status as a ‘training game’ the match will be played on the (public) Glasgow Science Park. If you are unsure of where that is, I believe it to be just of Maryhill Road. Good luck if you’re adventurous enough to go!

What will you see if you do make it? It is likely that a large squad of players will be used, not only to ensure everyone gets a kick at the ball but to ease everyone back into the habit of playing. Graeme Smith will almost certainly play some part between the sticks but as yet he is the only pre-season signing we have made. A backup (or number one?) ‘keeper was the one position we definitely needed to fill and we have done so. Other cover would have been nice – but for a club on our budget far from essential – however the lack of new faces does take away one of the most appealing parts of these friendlies.

Kevin McBride is obviously out of the game with his long term injury, we won’t be seeing him again for some time, but if there are any other tweaks or pulls the club has kept them quiet. The result does not matter too much but for the sake of confidence it would be preferable to win. That being said, our pre-season results last year were far from convincing and looked what happened then!

Given the nature of the game it’s barely worth making a prediction…but if the match does have any formal aspect, we should sneak it by 2-1.
