Rangers - 24h on

There would be more than a few in the Govan Stand corner regretting the investment of £23.50 only to see Motherwell fall two behind inside the first ten minutes. We got a thrill when Sutton's fine effort crashed into the net before the interval but most knew that the game was already lost.

Final score

The sad truth is that our hope for a successful season now rest with Hibs. If they can take three points from their next two games (St Mirren a and Rangers h) then we need to score a barrow-load when the Saints visit Fir Park next week. If Hibs take four or more then we can start planning for the next campaign.

We could spend hours talking of 'what if' and 'if only' but the reality has been that we failed in the last dozen games to take all the points that our play might have deserved. In our recent sequence (WDWWDDWDWLWDDL) there are several instances where we might have improved the result.

Motherwell fans will adopt a Jekyll and Hyde attitude to St Mirren this week. We'll be backing them to the hilt when they take on Hibs on Monday and hoping that Gus and his boys can hand out a sound beating to the men from
Leith. By the end of the week we'll be out to thrash them in front of a big crowd at Fir Park.

So, for the moment, good luck to the Saints!
