See What We're Missing?

If the players thought that the sad events of the evening of 28 February were fading then this weekend's break from the SPL routine should serve as a painful reminder. Motherwell lost 1-2 to St Johnstone that night as they delivered a woeful performance in the quarter final at Fir Park. As a result, supporters from Perth together with fans of Celtic, Hibs and Dunfermline will have a game to attend this weekend.

Motherwell at Hampden

In the last couple of seasons Motherwell have been involved in two semi finals. Last year we were unlucky to lose to a crazy late goal to Celtic in the CIS Cup. It was Terry Butcher's last hurrah with us and the team were cheered off the park by thousands of 'Well fans grateful for the efforts of the team.

Team line up in CIS Semi

In February 2005 we were treated to a wonderful night at Easter Road when the CIS semi was taken to the 'neutral' ground on the other side of Edinburgh from our opponents, Hearts. The memory of Marc Fitzpatrick charging into the penalty box late, late in the extra time period will live forever in the minds of all who were fortunate enough t be in the Motherwell stand behind the goal as he scored.

Easter Road

Let's hope that the memory of this season's quarter final is remembered the next time we face so-called 'lower league opposition' on a cup competition and that we don't have to wait too long until the stands at Hampden are once again filled with claret and amber.
