St Johnstone - 24h on

It was a tense afternoon for the Motherwell fans in the 2,836 crowd - with one moment of good fortune to give us a cheer.

We started on the back foot as St Johnston pushed us back for the first ten minutes.  Then a wonderful pass from Moult found Tait after a sprint down the right wing.  His delivery, hit with pace and aimed for the onrushing Cadden, was met by 'keeper Clark at his far post.  What happened next will cause a few sleepless nights and the ball squirmed under his body and finished in the net.

The rest of the first half was a poor affair with the ball in the air for much of the time.  St Johnstone had the lion's share of possession but they were able to fashion very few clear cut chances.  The manager's view of the second half, from his place in the stand, was of his team fending off wave after wave of attack.  The central defenders earned top marks and they were backed up by Samson at the top of his game.

The good fortune that delivered us an unexpected goal in the first half switched to the opposition in the second.  Samson blocked Kane's shot but the striker was in the right place as the ball rebounded off him for the equaliser.

The point moved us above Hamilton and keeps us in the middle of the pack.  We have a tough fortnight ahead.

Aberdeen come to Fir Park on Friday then we face away trips to Inverness and Hamilton.  It still remains the case that we'll be doing well to be in the pack when the New Year arrives.
