St Mirren - 24h On

Three and a half thousand fans made their way to Love St on Tuesday evening foregoing any temptation to put their feet up and watch the 'glamour game' on the box. Their reward was poor fare. The teams succeeded in nullifying each other and there were no moments of inspiration which got the fans off their seats.

Graeme Smith pulled off a couple of vital saves in the first half but that was it. Still, we got an away point, extended our unbeaten run to four and moved up a place in the table. A good night's work?

The football purist would say no. On the other hand can we complain that we stopped the Love Street rot? In the past we failed to turn up in Paisley and faced the inevitable defeat. Football fans have debated for years whether the result is more important than the performance so there is little prospect of us producing the definitive answer.

Ross McCormack got his first start since August and he'll need a few more games to reach a standard of fitness and sharpness which will allow a view to be taken of his contribution. Paul Keegan got the nod over David Clarkson after McCormack signalled to the bench with ten minutes remaining. It will be interesting to see who partners McDonald in next week's cup tie.
