Teenage Signing Spree

Last updated : 28 January 2003 By Firparkcorner

The official site released the news on Tuesday evening and quoted Bryan Jackson saying, "All the boys have done well and we are glad to get them signed up until summer 2003

"We like to try to reward players that come in and do well and we are delighted they have accepted

"It now means the future of the club looks bright"

Give us more of this lads!

This looks like a significant step in the recovery of the club. These youngsters have a promising future and the fact that they are willing to extend their stay shows that they have a belief that the ‘Well is Worth Saving.

Willie Kinniburgh was given the man of the match award at Saturday’s cup tie and his performance in the centre of defence has been most impressive for one so young (born September ’84). He is a product of the club’s youth system.

Paul Quinn grabbed his chance when he played three times for the first team in December and if this season’s pattern of injuries and suspensions continue then it seems likely that further opportunities will come his way.

Midfielder Shaun Fagan was catapulted into the limelight with his goal against Celtic in September. (We’ll make little mention of his handball which saw him booked at Parkhead in December!).

It could be that the pick of this bunch is David Clarkson. A rising star in the youth teams and already with recognition at national level, David is attracting good reviews after his partnership with Faddy at the Rugby Park cup tie. He has made five first team appearances so far this season with a sixth almost certain against Killie on Wednesday evening. Let’s hope we can celebrate a goal with David soon!

While other clubs in the SPL continue to import ageing players from abroad in the rush for short term gain it is a pleasure to see that we continue to invest in local youngsters as we build a team which will offer success in the long term.
