The Legends Score a Dozen

Many thanks go to the Fans' players who dug deep into their pockets for the honour of playing at Fir Park against their heroes. The spectators played their part too by paying at the gate and snapping up the special edition Matchday Magazine. The former players seemed to enjoy the occasion and it was good to see that some of the old magic is still there!

Both teams before kick off

Tam Cowan, complete with camel coat, large cigar and TV crew, sent out an impressive starting eleven. Woods was in goal behind a back four of Wark, Martin, Boyd and McCart; the midfield had McKinnon, Leitch, Kirk and Dolan and the strikers were Pettigrew and Arnott.

The Fans tactics of giving the Legends an early runaround and a few goals in the hope that their young legs would finally triumph were well and truly in tatters by the break.

Arnott had scored three inside twenty minutes and others added another four. Still, the best of the bunch was an eighteen yard looping shot from the Fans number ten, Denis McNaughton, which left Woods rooted to the spot as the ball sailed over his head and into the net.

Well Worth 50p !

At the interval John Boyle thanked all who contributed to the day and he presented Scott Leitch with a portrait in recognition of his service to the club.

Hugh Dallas managed affairs on the pitch and duly sent manager Cowan to the stand for the benefit of the Off the ball viewers.

The final score hardly mattered as the legends topped a dozen and the Fans snatched a late consolation. The final whistle arrived along with the howling gale.

Everyone who was their enjoyed the day but it would be appreciated if any repeat productions are planned to bear in mind that the weather in a Scottish December hardly favours outdoor entertainment!
