Top six last day drama ahead

C:WindowsTempphp22FD.tmpIt is a position that seemed unlikely a few weeks ago.  On Valentine’s Day Motherwell were in the much feared play-off position with only Dundee United keeping us off the bottom of the table.

A wonderful series of results that produced six wins from seven outings transformed gloom to hope and now we are in fourth place.  A point from the last game before the split would confirm a top half success and even offer the outside chance of a European slot.

The certainty that would follow would enable the manager to begin planning for next season.  The financial advantage that comes with every step up the league ladder will provide further comfort to the club as it moves to fan ownership.  It would also be reflected in the player budget.

Although we can ensure our place by taking at least a point when Celtic come to Fir Park at the weekend there are several other routes that would allow a claret and amber celebration.

Only a fourfold combination can stop us; Celtic must in win Motherwell, Partick Thistle must win in Dingwall, Dundee must win in Hamilton and St Johnstone must draw or win in Kilmarnock.  That combination will get around 15/1 at most bookies and there are a few ‘Well fans who are certain to invest a pound or two to soften the blow if we fail.

We have a 1230 kick off thanks to $ky while the chasing pack have the normal staring time.  A tense Saturday afternoon lies ahead.
