What Next for the Not So Mighty 'Well?

Motherwell could not have had a better series of cup draws. An away tie to struggling neighbours Airdrie followed by second then first division opponents at home. There cannot be an easier route to the semi final stage, yet we blew it. We were deservedly dumped in a disappointing game which we lost with a whimper rather than a fight.

The management and players can have no excuses for the cup fiasco and the fans will be looking for a reaction in the remaining league games. Can the team deliver?

There are six games remaining until the split. The last of those is at Parkhead but, of the rest, four are at Fir Park and the one away trip is to Tannadice. We could hardly have picked a better set of games of finish this section of the season.

Those players wishing to stake a claim in next season's first team should have plenty of chances to shine. The financial reward which follows a top six place is important to any provincial club but it could be that early preparation for next season should be the main priority.
