Who will be on top on Saturday - Faddy or Boydie?

The pair, now 30 years old, have a wealth of experience and a heap of national caps (Faddy 48, Boyd 18).  Both have returned to their original clubs and adoring fans to pick up ailing careers but there is an intriguing contrast.

Boyd has not changed in the slightest - while still arguably the best finisher in the division, he also retains the same limitations which prevented him succeeding outside the SPL.  His lack of pace and poor link-up play are outweighed by his knack of being in the right place at the right time.

McFadden on the other hand is a different player to the one which graced Fir Park ten years ago. There are fewer solo runs and spectacular shots but his vision and touch are much improved.  Motherwell make the best of him with his telling passes providing others with goal scoring opportunities.

There will be more to the outcome of Saturday’s game than simply the performance of the pair. But if we keep Boyd off the score sheet, we can surely fancy our chances of another important win.
