Next up: Ross County

Both sides have plunged the depths in recent weeks.  Motherwell halted a disastrous run last outing when the point earned against St Johnstone halted a five game losing streak.  County have to reach back a dozen games to find their last win in early November.  This hardly indicates that a classic display of footballing art is likely to be on show at Victoria Park.

The transfer window had both managers busy; six in and three out for Jim McIntyre, seven in and one out for Ian Baraclough.  The upshot is that team selection and formation will be shrouded in doubt until kick off.

Our last match brought debuts from Laing and Straker.  The centre half got early marching orders and is suspended but Straker showed enough in the second half to keep his place.  George Long may replace Dan Twardzik in goal and Marvin Johnson may be added to increase our attacking options.  If Pearson’s injury has cleared he would by a certain starter.  The wish list would have us starting with more than eleven but some regulars and a few new faces will have to make their contributions from the bench.

The rhetoric from both camps continues to underline the importance of the game.  The influence of the winter additions could be a huge factor in determining the result.  The Staggies grabbed a very late goal at Fir Park in December to secure a 2-2 draw and Motherwell had a fine 2-1 win in Dingwall in the first meeting of the season.  There’s no reason to believe that we can’t have a repeat and enjoy another 2-1 victory.

Remember our last visit to Dingwall?
