Next up: St Mirren

Our visitors have been thorough in their preparation according to their midfielder John McGinn.  “It is massive for us... We can't let them get onto the front foot. We need to go in and make sure we have got it right from the off.  If we win tomorrow night then we will give ourselves a right good chance”.  Videos of the previous meetings have shown Motherwell winning both encounters but they feel that those defeats can be reversed.

Erwin has a blast

St Mirren have lost five of the last six with only two goals to their credit.  A defeat at Fir Park would be close to a fatal blow to their faint survival hopes. There gloom and doom in the Saints’ support and most seem to have accepted that they will not be in the top flight next season.

Our manager takes the cautionary view that “until it’s mathematically impossible for teams to catch us, we won’t be ruling anyone out.”  Nevertheless, the away win at Rugby Park following the 4-0 victory over Hamilton will add to the confidence and belief that that surged through our dressing room in recent weeks.

The combination of Erwin and McDonald in attack has been causing defences lots of problems and there’s no reason to believe that won’t continue under the floodlights on Tuesday.  Pearson and Lasley now provide an excellent midfield platform and the pace on the flanks from Ainsworth and Johnson (assuming he’s fit) adds to our threat.

Home advantage should tip the balance in our favour and if we can persuade enough Motherwell fan to ignore the live TV broadcast and to turn up at the ground there should be an atmosphere that matches the importance of the game.  It should be three consecutive wins and a maybe 3-1 scoreline.

Remember the last time St Mirren were at Fir Park?
