Up for the Cup?

Last updated : 01 November 2014 By Firparkcorner

Few Motherwell fans will be confident of progress to the fifth round no matter our opponents.  We've managed only one win from the last 16  outings in cup competitions

The long list of ejections, all but one at the first opportunity, makes sad reading.  This season has already seen us face Stjarnan and Hamilton and in the three encounters there were no wins.  Last season included a rare win, against Livingston in the League Cup, but it culminated with the shameful loss to Albion Rovers and included defeats at the hands of FC Kuban and Aberdeen - another five games without a win.

In 2012/13 Motherwell played in seven cup games.  Two-legged affairs against Panathinaikos and Levante, a Scottish Cup loss against Aberdeen after a replay and a defeat to a young Rangers side in the League Cup produced a total of 15 cup games without a win.  And that from a side that finished 'best of the rest' in the last three seasons.

The sporting deficit that record produced was bad enough but the harm done to the club's finances has been a major contributor to our year on year losses.  Time for a change!

Motherwell have started this competition at home only once this century.  What will Monday's draw bring?
