Scottish Cup dreams start on Tuesday

Motherwell have had had little to cheer in the national cup competition for years.  Early exits have been the norm in all knockouts and the club’s finances have suffered badly as a result.

Happy day!

Even during the successful McCall era the sad departures contrasted with the highs of our league campaigns.  Recent exits at the first hurdle thanks to losses against Dundee United, Albion Rovers and Aberdeen received a fresh twist when we lost to Morton in this season’s League Cup.  The Greenock debacle proved to be the final straw for Ian Baraclough’s short reign.

Mark McGhee knows that that progress in the Cup is a vital element in the Les Hutchison plan for our future and that it provides routes to increase income both through the gate and from TV.

Last season we failed at the first attempt against Stjarnan in the Europa League, Hamilton in the League Cup and Dundee United in the Scottish Cup.  Let’s hope for a better run on this occasion.  The fourth round ties will take place around the weekend of 9 January 2016.
